Acne Myth No. 4
Sunlight Is Good against Acne –WRONG
Many people still expose themselves to sunlight for “treating” their zits or even acne. But sunlight has not been yet proven to be a real healer for this kind of skin problems and for any skin disorders at all, in fact. It’s clear that, once again, is just a popular common belief.
However, you should know the whole truth, so that you could not be tricked by the first impression: getting a normal sun tan is good for any normal skin, and even for that affected by acne. But we must first explain what “a normal sun tan” means. That is spending a short period of maximum four hours in the sun in the morning or/and in the evening, but never in the afternoon (between 12 a.m. and 4 p.m.), and only after you’ve begun with special anti-ultraviolet crème or oil.
Sun could fasten the healing of acne on the first instance, but this is kind of a tricky thing, as in the next days acne would in fact flourish. So the sun seems to be just a false friend, and not a real “natural” healer.
Staying to much in the sunlight could even worsen acne, as well as cause painful skin injuries.
On the other hand, the ultraviolet light from the sunlight increases the risk of skin cancer, as well as of early aging of the skin.
Moreover, you should know that sun increases the oil production of your skin, which is related to the causes of acne. So the common belief that sun improves the skin’s healing from the acneic disorder because is dries your skin proves to be not only wrong, but on the reality’s contrary.
So it seems you should rather not stay in the sunlight, than hurrying up to be the first on the beach. But, if you really want to do this and you find it relaxing to get a sun tan, you should use special anti-ultraviolet light crème that is also labeled as anti-acneic. You should also wear a hat or a cap and you definitely mustn’t stay for too long in the sunlight. Or your skin will suffer!
