Acne Myth No. 5
Acne Is a Hereditary Disorder – COULD BE
You’ve often heard that if your parents suffered from acne (or still suffer), you’ll get it too sooner or later. Although not in the common medical sense of the word acne can be called a hereditary disorder, unfortunately. But you shouldn’t be scared, because not everybody whose parents suffered from acne really experienced it too.
Researches have showed that acne is more common in children whose parents suffered or still suffer from acne, then in children whose parents haven’t suffered from this skin disorder. But the way acne seems to be inherited by (some of) the children whose parents have suffered from it too hasn’t been yet discovered. In fact, “hereditary” is just relatively a proper term in the case of acne, as the fact that your parents have had the skin disorder seems only to increase your predisposition to the disorder, and not to really directly cause it.
Anyway, you shouldn’t be terrified at the thought that someday you’ll get acne without any of your fault, but because of your parents. You must firstly know that this couldn’t necessarily happen, and that if it however happens your parents can’t be blamed about it. No one’s guilty of suffering from such disorder, for which, on the other hand, there are plenty ways of treatment.
Although your parents have suffered from acne, don’t think about it! In some cases autosuggestion could be even more harmful than heredity!
