Acne Dysmorphia II
Acne Dysmorphia represents a rare illness. But although it is rare, it is also very risky and much more annoying than acne itself, because this condition is much severer than the pure skin disorder.
So, first of all you should find out that Acne Dysmorphia however does not represent another type or form of acne, but a debilitating mental illness. It is related to the body dysmorphic disorder and its symptoms are represented by the sufferers’ becoming completely obsessed with the physical condition of their body, and, obviously, mainly of their face skin.
Acne Dysmorphia could be rightfully compared to Anorexia Nervosa, because the both disorders involve the persons’ obsessive complexion; while Anorexia is about weight, Acne Dysmorphia is about the skin’s condition. In the both disorders the sufferers’ perception goes altered by their obsessions and fears. Depression, frustration and all the bad feelings from this range have an important role in Acne Dysmorphia, as well in Anorexia Nervosa’s development.
Furthermore and once again similar to Anorexia Nervosa, Acne Dysmorphia is not strongly related to acne at all! While the anorexic persons are fit, and often even too slim because of their long-time obsessive behavior, the people who are suffering from Acne Dysmorphia might not even suffer from acne at all! Because they are depressed and troubled persons the Acne Dysmorphia sufferers might even pick at an area of their (previously healthy) skin until its starts bleeding and becomes infected. This way, if one does not suffer from real acne, they start “producing” skin harming by their own. On the other hand if these people suffer from a simple, mild form of acne, such as small zits let’s say, they tragically suffer because of it and start also to scratch the area till it is starting to bleed, so that the obsession could get its fuel.
Not matter how normal their skin is in fact, the people who suffer from Acne Dysmorphia believe they have horrible skin or terrible acne, that they are ugly and so on. These people would check their faces in the mirrors for dozens and hundreds of times a day and their skin complexion would affect their social relations and their entire life. The obsession comes always along with depression and frustration, defective social behavior and sometimes eventually leads to suicide.
That is why Acne Dysmorphia should be treated very seriously. Because the sufferers would not go to the doctor and tell them they are maniacs (they would not even realize they might suffer from a mental disorder, simply because they do suffer from it), their relatives, friends and physicians should be the ones to notice the problem. If one pays enough attention to a person’s behavior, Acne Dysmorphia could be easily discovered, just because it involves maniac behavior: the people would complain of their skin very often, they would have scratches on their face, they would even say they suffer from acne although they don’t seem to, they would seek better acne treatments although they don’t seem to need them, they would not simply be able to be calm without checking their faces in the mirror for an exaggerated number of times in a period of time; finally for the ones that know them and spend few hours with them, and for the physicians and dermatologists the Acne Dysmorphia sufferers should be easily discovered. The sufferers will simply become completely fixated on their skin and they will say they look horrible although they are just normal people.
So, Acne Dysmorphia is not about acne or skin disorders; it is a mental illness and it must be treated such as. It is very important that this disorder to be found and treated with the help of specialized medics. It left untreated, Acne Dysmorphia, as well as other mental problems, could get worse and worse and might lead even to suicide. The sufferers’ behaviors are troubled and they get more and more depressed, frustrated and lonely; the vicious circle feeds more and more their mental condition and the persons’ lives get in great danger.
So, try to be aware of yourselves for a minute and check the previous symptoms. If they sound familiar to your daily behavior, you must necessarily see a physician. Or maybe if you have a friend or a relative that seems to have these symptoms, try to do something about it and bring him or her to a doctor. Remember that there is always hope, but people must be willing to get better or, respectively, to help their friends that suffer from a health problem.
Acne Dysmorphia I
You can’t imagine how many of us experience at least one type or form of acne during our lifetimes! Acne represents in fact the single most common skin disorder; it is more common than all the other skin disorders combined in fact.
Many people are very interested in this disorder and in new cures and medicines against it; many scientists are still analyzing acne in their trying to better understand its inner mystery and to find out more about the outer factors that might help its growth. There are many magazines, web sites and articles and posts respectively that are “talking” about acne and try to offer its sufferers more clues about it, more treatments, pieces of advice and so on…
We’re also writing here many interesting things about acne, about women and men suffering differently (and not so differently in fact) from acne; we’re giving valuable pieces of advice and recommend how to fight acne; we’re digging among forms and types of the skin disorder and so on.
But, man’s world is (more and more) a very ironical and absurd place; why wouldn’t this absurdity affect also our subject? Why wouldn’t the enemy come from the inside and not from the outside in acne’s case too?
This article’s subject is a very strange one indeed. It is not about acne, but it does involve acne. It is about doctors and treatments, but not necessarily about dermatologists and skin care products.

Speaking of products and treatments against acne, we have here always reminded you that there is always hope in fighting acne. Firstly you need to be aware of all the risks that acne might involve and then you also need a positive attitude and a strong will. Nowadays there are hundreds of treatments and medicines against all types of acne and although its inner cause remains still a mystery, the physicians and researchers know more about this skin disorder. The “Clear Pores” and “Healthy Pores” are just some of the best such full treatments for acne.
But, there is unfortunately one health problem involving acne that the “Clear Pores” and “Healthy Pores” products and no other medicine or treatment could not cure. This health problem’s name is Acne Dysmorphia, and although it involves acne it is neither a form, nor a type of acne.
We know it sounds strange, but you will find out more about this severe health problem in the next post and you’ll realize how terrible it is.
Men, Women and Acne
As we have showed till now, acne really seems to be a disorder that at some level chooses between the two genders, or in other words it affects women and men in different ways or through different forms.
So, the special things about acne in boys and men are two: the first of all is that the disorder attacks more the teenage boys than the teenage girls, because of their oil glands producing more male hormones, which are the primary cause of acne; and the second thing is that there is a form of severe acne that attacks mostly men and another also severe form that attacks almost only men. So, while Acne Conglobata appears mostly in men, Acne Fulminans attacks almost only young men.
Although it might sound simple and similar to men’s case, acne in women seems to be rather a more complicated thing. We’re not telling here about how acne affects women and men’s lives and psychics, we’re not talking about aesthetics; we’re just drawing your attention on the fact that women’s bodies are far more complicated than men’s and that this is very important in the case of such a strange disorder as acne because it is all about hormones.
However, what is similar to men is that women’s problems related to acne start along with their reaching adolescence. But in the normal way acne should disappear after this period of time passes away and the girl becomes a young woman. But what is still normal on this world, so that acne could act normally too? For some women the real problem with this skin disorder breaks out in their late 20s or even early 30s. For some of these cases this eruption would take place for the first time in their lives.
However, the thing that makes the difference between men and women when talking also about acne is the fact that women have been created to be mothers and because of this fact their bodies experience monthly hormonal changes and not only. When they become mothers, the women also experience other hormonal changes. And finally when they enter the menopause or even the post-menopause periods, women may also experience hormonal changes and this way may still get acne.
So, whatever her age is for a woman the hormonal changes, that is in fact the disequilibria between her body’s male and female hormones, are very often things. Women should see a dermatologist or their physician and try to treat their acne. If they are pregnant and are also willing to treat their skin against acne, they really MUST see the doctor.
Among the treatment options for adult females that suffer from acne there are the antibiotics and topical treatments. Because there are women for whom the antibiotics and the topical treatments don’t show any result, they could turn to birth control pills, but only at their doctor’s advice.
Taken in low dosages, the birth control pills represent an acne treatment because they can decrease the amount of extra androgens, limiting breakouts. However, you should be aware that birth control pills have side effects and that you should first find them out and consult a gynecologist.
There are also other mixed treatments for women, but it is very important that they should be started only at the doctor’s advice and not by the word of mouth. When hormones get in the middle of the action, you should be very careful! Your body’s equilibrium between the male and female hormones is very sensitive and every wrong treatment could in fact harm you, your skin and not only, than be helpful and fight (only) acne.
All in all, practically the treatments against acne for men and women do not differ radically. The difference is just that women’s bodies’ inner mechanism is more complex, sophisticated and sensitive (to hormonal changes) than the men’s bodies.
