Ages…, Stages… Shaving and Acne

November 15th, 2007 Posted in Acne Myths, What Is Acne

We haven’t reached this topic for some time now, but there are still lots of myths to discover and discuss about when talking about acne.
One of these myths is represented also by the so called “shaving bumps”, or the acne spots that appears after shaving. So, guys, this article will be interesting and useful especially for you, who have to shave your face day by day!
Shaving is something necessary and neither men, nor women could hate it: the men’s facial hair is a symbol of manhood and virility. Both for men and for their girlfriends, wives or lovers the beard is a powerful symbol. Shaving becomes this way somehow a daily ritual and has its own meaning and it gives a unique feeling.
When the teenage boys shave their beards for the first time, the shaving process becomes practically the first step of a longer and deeper initiation stage. It represents the first step in the teenage boys’ quest to manhood. They have grown enough to have facial hair and shave it, but they are still not men.
However, in some time their beards will have grown even stronger and the signs of real manhood will arise from nowhere. This stage is not longer puberty; it is a stage far more close to maturity. The teenage boys are now “brand new” young men, in fact. And they enjoy it! Their mothers enjoy it, their fathers enjoy it, and even the young women enjoy it!

The period of time when we are young and healthy seems to be the most amazing period of our lives. We think that we have all the time in the world and we enjoy the taste of freedom in all the possible ways. We are just young and our bodies help us taste everything we want: we don’t have to worry about getting fat, or about getting old, about wrinkles and illnesses. We sometimes catch a cold, but after all, nothing could scare us, and death is something that seems to be for everybody else, but not for us. We feel as if we were immortals.
Unfortunately, these are all just feelings, and feelings don’t last forever. It is in their inner definition that feelings are just moments when your nerves are excited by everything that happens around us. When we are young, our bodies help us a lot. Our nerves are strong, our muscles are tough, our heads and minds are free of daily worries and we enjoy thinking of new things, new experiences, new everything!
However, this is just a stage of our lives. Don’t be pessimistic, though; as we get old, we become wiser. If we are smart enough, we are able to enjoy with the same strength many things. The difference is represented just by the rhythm in which we do everything. Our hearts seem to bit slower, but they are alive, they live and they love live as much as in the past. Our muscles have a different shape, but they do love sports and stretching and tender touches. Our minds have already got beyond the youth’s limitations and we are able to share with the others a lot more different perspectives over the same things. We still love live, but we have now already learnt to appreciate it in a very different way. We still love freedom, but now this is a far more developed concept than in the past. As we get more mature, we could be freer that in the past, if we are wise enough to have learnt what freedom is all about.
And, yes, men still love to shave their beards, although now they are doing it as if they were a mechanism: wake up, go to the bathroom, wash your face, shave your beard, use some aftershave, go prepare some coffee, kiss your wife and so on. Yes, this could sound sad, if you’re a teenager now, but when you’re a mature man, it is these things that provide your necessary daily feelings and comfort. It is kissing the wife (the same old girl friend, that is) every morning that helps you survive everyday in doing the old boring things you have to do as a job and so on. It is the same old habit of shaving your beard every morning that shows you that everything is OK and helps you feel safe and sound in our home, alongside your family.

But, HEY!, what have all these things to do with acne? What shaving has to do with acne? Some of you already know the answer, probably. The others will find it out in the next post.
However, there are two main ideas that we should remember: one is that acne could be just a stage if you are wise enough to get rid of it and the other is that shaving has a lot to do with acne. You’ll see.
